Hi All,

I've gotta change the front cover gasket on my Chim 450. It does unfortunately have Aircon which means the Serpentine belt takes a different route to the pics in the Steve Heath book and loosening appears a different process to Non A/C cars as the Alternator appears fixed and not responsible for tightening the belt.

Does anyone have any instructions on this at all or pics or both?

Many thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

The alternator is fixed and does not tension the belt on either engine...AC or no AC. The only real difference (IIRC) is the auto tensioner sits in a different position but still in the same place (if that makes much sense!).
Other than that, you should be ok.

Here's a picture of the layout:

Put a spanner on the tensioner (it's the wheel directly beneath the alternator) and pull it to release the tension. The belt then comes straight off.

He'll need to push it downwards, from the look of it.

Yes, that's right. 15mm ring spanner.
