It often doesn't work, neither do italics.

Thanks Pete.. Sorry I thought copying smiley from original post had worked. Doh.. it was actually. Possibly others but not thought of 'em yet.. See what you mean about closing bold - I guess i thought you could run bold to end of post.. Live & learn.
