applying for my provisional entitlement on my full UK driving licence, do i just need the same D1 form and tick the box for motorcycle provisional entitlement and send that off with my licence and paper counter part? only in Junes edition of Bike told me i needa D2 wich appears to be the form for HGV entitlement.

Thanks from a much confused and eager Matt

erm... if you have a full car licence, I am sure that's all you need to do a cbt (but would advise to check the dvla webby)

I would get your theory out of the way and then do a Direct Access course, assuming you're over 21.

The only time you will need to send your license away is when you have passed either the restricted (33.3bhp) test or the DAS course. The A1 entitlement will be on the paper part of your license only. You can do the CBT before you do the theory test, but for the restricted and DAS courses you will need to pass the theory test before hand

Ah, see the OP is only 20 but with the local school I chose they said do the CBT for now as I have no bike experience at all.
Assuming I don't mess up I can arrange DAS form there with the CBT cost deducted.

IIRC for a while standard licences didn't come with provisional category A entitlement - there was a box on the form to tick if you wanted it, hence if you subsequently wanted to learn to ride a bike and you hadn't ticked the box you had to send your licence off to get provisional category A on your licence.

as the last poster said, check your paper licence to ensure you have the provisional bike class. it will get checked on the CBT & they wont let you do the CBT without the provisional bike entitlement.

November is only a few months away, and you may have to wait for a slot at the bike school anyway - id do your theory ASAP and then book your DAS so that it's on/just after your birthday smile
