Oh dear.

Autosport said:
Italy's tax agency is investigating former world motor cycling champion Valentino Rossi for suspected tax evasion, an agency spokesman said on Wednesday.

The spokesman said the agency was examining possible tax evasion on undeclared revenues of 60 million euros ($82.61 million) from 2000 to 2004.

The investigation is linked to Rossi's decision in 2000 to take up residence in Britain to take advantage of favourable tax conditions.

Rossi's Yamaha team and spokeswoman were not immediately available for comment.
Ouch..................

Exactly I don't believe for a second he moved here for tax reason.. sounds like billy BS to me.
He moved to Britian cos he couldn't leave his house in italy without being mobbed.

If he was bothered about tax why not move to monaco??

It could well be for tax reasons. Our non-domiciled exemptions make it very attractive for foreign nationals to live here. Even if they paid the full 40% it would still be less than lots of other parts of europe.

Marco Melandri lives here, Checca used to (still might) Guintolli does and lots of the lower profile F1 drivers do as well.

Rossi is something of a party animal as well which London life caters well for.

Non domiciled individuals living in UK who earn outside the UK and do not bring the cash into the UK are not taxed here. 0% tax rate is far superior to Italian rates.

Uh, Oh. Now they're after Capirossi again. Has the Italian government got a budget shortfall this year?

Autosport said:
Italy's tax agency says former 250cc world champion Loris Capirossi evaded taxes in 2001-02, a source close to the case said on Friday. Earlier this week, an agency spokesman said former MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi was being investigated for suspected tax evasion.

The agency has ruled Capirossi under-declared earned income in 2001-02 by 1.3 million euros ($1.78 million), said the source who declined to be identified. The tax agency declined to comment. The authorities have already accused Capirossi of under-declaring income of 12 million euros from 1995. The 34-year-old Capirossi, a MotoGP veteran, is appealing that ruling on the portion that relates to income of nine million euros from 1995 to 2000.

The tax agency claim was "completely absurd", his manager Carlo Pernat told the ANSA news agency, adding that Capirossi lived in Monaco, not Italy.
