Hello, wonder if anyone can offer some thoughts/advice.

I've owned my Chimaera 4000 for the last two years, and loved all of it. However, I think the time has come for us to part... But where next?

I've actually been getting wound up thinking about it, but my options boil down to the following:

Cerbera Speed 6. Still a TVR, amazing value, good local specialists to me to service it. But - potential for scary huge bills.

Chimaera 500. Better the devil you know, but I've had a Chimaera already and will I get bored of it quickly?

Tuscan. Yes please - but much the same as Cerbera, plus might not have the budget for a top notch one.

Practical car + stupid car. 4x4 (which would be far better for all my other hobbies than a TVR) plus something like a Caterham or Ginetta - still British and wouldn't mind raping it on track days/hill climbs.

BMW M5. Actually, don't deal enough cocaine to pull one of these off.

Porsche 911/Nissan 350Z/Lotus Esprit/Exige. Maybe...

Anyone have any experience of making such a change? Any/all advice gratefully received, I can't decide!

I've got about £17-18K to play with and don't want to spend more than 2K a year on servicing and routine bills (exluding the unfortunate rebuilds, etc).

What's your reason for wanting a change? Are you just bored with it? How about some modifications to spice it up if you're otherwise satisfied. That way you know the history of the car and the costs involved in running it but you can really change the character by upgrading the suspension, adding a straight thru exhaust and how about a supercharger?

Just food for thought...

Cheers

Have been in a similar quandry for the past year. Have had a Chim 400 for three years. I couldn't think of anything else apart from another TVR or Aston, which is out of my price bracket. I test drove a chim 500 and it felt great but not really very different apart from the obvious power.
I have been toying with a Tamora. Would love a Tuscan S2 but just a little over budget and too high maintenance.
However I have just had an Offords cherry bomb exhaust fitted and what a noise, it's really re-inspired me. Still a Tamora beckons, maybe next year. Good luck. biggrin

Ive just done exactly that.... I sold my 1999 4.0 Chimp and have just purchased a 2001 Tuscan.
The chimp felt slow in the end and I too got bored with it (still loved and cherihed it though)
Ive taken out a 12 month warranty on the Tuscan for 700 pounds for peace of mind and will be joining the AA too.
Just bite the bullet.. stick with TVR no other car can give you Ferrari performance for the cost of a new Mondeo. and the noise.. who needs a stereo..
Best of luck

Thanks for the advice guys; I have thought about trying to improve what I have already got, but I know what will happen - I'll love it for about 3 months then start thinking about selling it again!

Hadn't really thought about a Tamora though - they're then only modern TVR Ive never driven. And relatively cheap... I feel a plan coming together!

Thanks again all.

Would be interested to know what you think when you drive one. I haven't driven one yet either but like the look of them, not as striking as the tuscan but quite funky and the interior looks good. biggrin

I am really tempted, but the thought of potentially huge running costs does scare me a bit.

I drove one once with Nitrons and a race pipe and have to say, the best car I have ever driven. Truly incredible.

I made the swop from 400 to 500.

My reasoning was that if I modified the 400 and still wanted a change from TVR I'd lose money. By going to the 500 I got the step up in power which pleased me for a while and am now exploring modifications each of which have improved the car.

Sure if I sell I won't get all my money back but I'm enjoying incremental improvements that keep me interested and being a Chim I'm spared the scary breakages and bills that a Cerb or Tuscan might bring. I hasten to add that mine is my daily runner so buying one of the other models would make a much larger hole in the kids inheritence (you're not getting your hands on a penny for many years yet you little buggers).

Or you could try a Griffith for a change.
