Trouble Starting?

Why is it that i can start my GTi, but then when i turn the engine off and go to start it again it doesnt start and makes a funny buzzing noise? Is it the starter playing up? After this it will start again, seems to be a bit of a pattern.

You'll need to be methodical about this one mate - make sure you've got compression, power and fuel in the right places at the right times.

From symptons above it sounds as if your ignition switch may not always be going round to 3 - buzzing noise is your fuel pump priming.

Does it make any difference if you turn it to position 2, then wait, then turn it to 3 to start?

Erm, havnt tried that, but will make a note to do so, and report back. I have another starter from a mates car so will chuck this on at the weekend and see what it does. If it is problems with the fuel pump and stuff, is this going to be an expensive problem to sort out?

I was told by a neighbour that the 'buzzing' was the starter not engaging properly, so i took it out, gave the end a bit of an oil and its fine now. Seems real weird.
