Hi chaps,

I've been reading this forum for a while now and find it very helpful. I've been looking for a TVR Chimaera for a few months and have been to see a few. I'm now in a position where i'd like to buy one and this is the reason for my first post. I'm not sure if it'll fit in my garage!! Its a single garage....
238cm x 422cm (7.8 feet x 13.8 feet). I know the car will physically fit in there but have no idea if i'll be able to open the dorrs enough to get in or out!! I was just wondering what size garages you guys have and if anybody has a small garage like mine that they park in?

Thanks in advance

Tom

If your TVR won't fit in your garage, I think you'll find it's actually a shed

It'll be fairly tight getting in and out of the car. Definitely need carpet stuck to the wall to save your door edge!

Hold on - how come your garage isn’t full up with a chest freezer, kids bikes, lawn mower, strimmer, nearly empty paint tins, boxes still unpacked from last house move, etc?

Good idea on the carpet to protect the door edges! I just wasnt sure if i could squeeze out of the car.

Dont get me wrong, my garage is packed at the moment - i dont have kids yet so most of the junk in there can be chucked out. Luckily i have a small section at the back, that, if i'm lucky i can stack the mower, paint tins and odd tools neatly.

Yep Carpet on the walls and if it is really tight mark a line on the floor that you align the drivers side wheels with when reversing in. That way you can get inch perfect each time. When I had to solve this one I cut a piece of timber to the width of the TVR and experimented with it attached to the bonnet of the shopping car. If it really won’t fit plainly you need to move house.

I've gone for carpet well the last owner of the house did and I've kept it
I think it is going to be a tight fit in your garage though.
This is 8' 7" x 17' internal, although there is a boxed in waste pipe runing down the passenger side that robs about 6" on that side. at the back is 2 feet of storage/tool box, so the lenght shouldn't be an issue.

Getting in and out is easy enough even with the roof on although it is a lot easier with it off, you'll just have to get used to getting in the car Duke Brothers styleee. rotate
I know of one TVR owner that 'borrowed' a car to see if it would fit in his garage, maybe this is worth a try, and I tried the car in the garage before I bought the house. wink

Thanks for the replies chaps!!!

I like the idea of the Dukes of Hazzard style entry. Although, as my garage has a flat roof, i'm now wondering if i could build a hatch into the roof above the drivers seat and fit a firemans pole or something similar...!

I can see now that it will be a squeeze and as suggested the only way i can for sure is to try it before i buy one.

Thanks again for the help. I'll keep you all posted....

Good luck with your search.

By the way, it might be best to steer away from comments that you would like to slide down a fireman's pole. There are some strange people on here!

Cheers pal!!

I was joking about the firemans pole, i think it would be great but i think the missus would have something to say about it!

I find nudging up to a tennis ball on a string in just the right place helps.

They can be a tight fit getting in the garage with the wing mirrors as well, but slowly and carefully and they will fit in the garage.

Some garages do have slighty wider openings and that makes life a lot easier. But Carpet on the wall will stop the door getting chipped, and making the passenger get out before you drive into the garage will help....
