How do you know if the diff bushes are knackered.
I've replaced all the other bushes with polys and i assume the diff ones are the original ones.
Cars 11 years old.
Thanks

I have the same question. I bought my car a month ago and then had Rob Ingleby inspect it (wrong way round I know!!) so I was aware of anything I had missed to get sorted under the warranty. He picked up a cracked rear diff bush. I took the car back to the TVR Dealer today after mentioning it and they said that as there was no play in it it was perfectly fine and they refused to replace it - they said that because you also have to heat the chassis up to change it this which would create undue stress when it didnt need doing???

Is this OK or should I push really hard for them to fix it - or is their refusal to repair it something to do with the labour hours to do the job???

Thanks as always for any comment...

Mine went a couple of months ago, it is characterised by a clunking as the diff wobbles about particularly when you back off the throttle. It will start quite quietly but once it has started, it goes very quickly and then you really want to get it done before the mounts are damaged from metal on metal contact. Got mine done at Power for a pretty resonable price (i'm told its an absolute bitch of a job so decided not to go it myself!)

What he said - sounds like a clunck from the boot.

the dealer is taking you for a ride .. once the bushes start to split they do so very rapidly as the post above rightly says. They don't want to do it 'cos it's bitch of a job usually involving taking teh diff out unless you have contortionist hands ..

you dont have to heat the chassis up though (and it doesn't cause any stress even if you do, just make sure you don't set the fibreglass on fire though!) .. you can cut through the bush sleeve with a carbide cutter in an air drill which means no heat required. Push for them to do it, and replace with a poly version for peace of mind for many years to come smile

Sounds like youre talking about the top rear bush (the others are a piece of P to change). Can you really visually inspect that bush? I thought the best you could do was agitate it with a bar.

Yes it is the top one, and it is possible to see some of it and a crack in the bush on mine is evident. The dealer has refused to change it on the basis that there is no play in it even though I only just bought the car from him!

Does anyone have any idea how long this might last or is that something that is impossible to say??

Thanks thats interesting. I've researched it a bit and have been told its a pig of a job and I suspected thats why they have refused to do it.

I'm gonna push them hard now for it to be sorted.

As a side comment, is there any policy on naming and shaming these sorts of garages - I am talking of a former main dealer here who has seemingly lied about what the job entails to fob me off!!

No naming and shaming on PH most people get around it by dropping big hints withot actually naming the garage specifically, but even then you might get into trouble.
