Toro Rosso confirm Bourdais for 2008

The sulky Frenchy has finally been signed to race in F1.

Scuderia Toro Rosso have confirmed three-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais will race for the team in 2008.
The Frenchman will join German Sebastian Vettel at the Italian squad next season.
"It has been a long time coming, but here we are," said Bourdais. "I would like to thank everyone at Red Bull for believing in me and giving me this long-awaited opportunity to race in Formula One.
"I must also thank Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing for letting me pursue my dream and allowing me to test for Scuderia Toro Rosso a few times this year."
The 28-year-old Frenchman will be free to join the team after the final round of this year's Champ Car Series on 2 December.

Guess he's coming for the money - he really wasn't earning that much in Cart
Good for F1 to have a French driver back in the series. Wonder how long it will take for Vettel to have him on the back foot - he must be laughing to himself - 8 races and plenty of testing experience as opposed to Bourdais who has done virtually nothing !
I know F1 is the big show, but it is hard to believe anyone would be excited about going to STR right now. It will be interesting to see if Bourdais can do anything with the car, he certainly hasn't in testing. It may shed a little bit of light on Liuzzi and Speed's real capabilities if Vettel and Bourdais can do no better.

I heard from someone, might have been my Mum, that he isn't mentally strong enough. Toro Rosso aren't the most sympathetic of teams are they?
i said it before, relating to vettel, but i don't see how going to such a poor performing team will do you any favours whatsoever. you'll be at the back of the grid, getting in the way and totally un-noticed until you screw up, which you will inevitably do in trying to make a completely uncompetitive car set a decent lap. and they'll have two very inexperienced drivers trying to help develop the car.
vettel should have stayed as BMW tester and gone for race seat in '09 - it's not like he's running out of time is it!
bourdais, if he's as good as everyone reckons (i too think vettel will be better than him) should have held out for a renault drive - can't see fisi lasting too much longer (but then is keikki experienced enough to lead the team?)

Everyone knows you should only change one variable at a time.
Neither Speed not Liuzzi are 'promising' Speed is poor and Liuzzi not a lot better. Everyone knows you should only change one variable at a time.
Vettel should be comfotably quicker than either and if Bourdais isnt it will really show the paucity of talent in CART, after all it looks like he will a 4 times chapion when he leaves at the end of the season.

This demonstrates how the respect for Champ Cars in the F1 grid has fallen due to all the fighting between IRL and CART. A few years ago the yanks were coming straight into top line drives, Andretti into McLaren, Villeneuve into Williams, Montoya into Williams, Zanardi into Williams. Now the three times champion has to join Torro Rosso!

Liuzzi was doing the best he could with that POS Toro Rosso call a race car. I don't know where they get off dumping him like this but I will be cheering every time one of their cars go up in flames from now on.
