Throttle response
Discussion
After working with Graham (Walden) with his Tuscan racer over the Diamond Rock weekend, I was amazed at the throttle response he was getting out of a 5L RV8 largely due i'm sure to the Emerald system and Jenvy throttle bodies he had running.
Now in my Chim I have so far done intake, trumpets & base, manifolds, exhaust and MC1 cam and am about to go for an Emerald ECU with all the related bits with stage 3/4 heads at some point in the future when I can justify taking the engine apart again. My throttle response is not bad by any stretch of the mind (its a 450), but if I were to go with something like an ACT twin throttle plenum or even a triple (I know this won't give any more power than the twin on a 450 but would it do anything for throttle response?), how much of a difference would this likely make apart from a nice and smooth throttle pedal?
I can't really be bothered to get into lightened flywheels and such so would only be looking at breathing mods I suspect!

A big part of the throttle response is how the fuelling is controlled, my old emeraldefied wedge had superb throttle response and that had the same intake as yours.
Once you've consigned the washing machine parts masquerading as an injection system to the bin and got an Emerald and a set of coils on there as well you'll be more than happy I promise

Most of my engine work I've done in stages and so my old 5 litre gradually evolved. The twin Jenvy plenum I'm sure will benefit the output of your motor by giving a better distribution of air within the chamber. I'm still using mine on the 5.4 (coz I don't have the funds for the tripple). Despite what may be said, advertised or you hear though, the most noticeable change to throttle response, and urgency on the road, came from the mapped ignition. No doubt this will be part and parcel of your Emerald. Speak to Jools at TCS, I'm sure he'll advise.

Spot on,most old engines suffer more from the dizzy bob weight system losses more than the fueling system woes be it poor Fi or Carbs,i cannot wait to go aftermarket ECU,but this will have to wait till winters lay/up.winston lai said:
Gentlemen, Where can I get the Emerald ECU? As I live in Hong Kong. Is there a webpage for the company selling it? So I can read up more on it.
Thanks
Try here first there is a possible group buy ... http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...Thanks
