I have a late 1.7 alfa boxer 8v carbed engine, with hydraulic heads, from a G plate 1989 alfa-sud, of which I'm putting in my kit car......the distributor is the type without contacts, its has the bosch electronic system, but still with a vacum advance, there is a 3 pin socket on the side of the distributor, which i think is the spark generator/position sensor......what do each of the 3 wires do, and where do I need to route them to, I obviously have a coil with +ve and -ve terminals too, but I dont have a clue how to link the 3 distributor wires the the coil and ignition feed.

The bosch part number is 1227022031

I have since noticed the pins on the female socket (with the wiring on) are numbered 1, 2 and 3.......1 being closest to the flywheel, and 3 being furthest from the flywheel....... the wire colours I currently have are:-

1 = white
2 = black
3 = green & black

the female connector with the wires on actually has the Ford logo mounded in it so I'm dubious if the wiring I have actually came from an alfa!

I'm sure this is an easy question for someone to answer

Took me ages to get this information!

black: earth
green: ign 12V (I took this from +ve on coil
white: -ve coil

There are different ignition systems but it's worth trying the above.

Hope that helps...

Ricola - you are a god - I should have known better and e-mailed you first, as I'm installing the same model of engine that you used in your ghia conversion......nice one fella!

I recently had to look it up as my brother has just been restyling the ghia and didn't make a note of the wiring, in the end I found my own post asking on an old Alfa forum...
What car are you sticking it in?

Its going into my UVA Fugitive-4, mines the yellow one at the front of the pic below.....I already have a 1.5 from a 1983 sud, but it lacks oompf when overtaking, and I had a ride in the orange fugitive-4 in the background of this picture which had a 1.7 8v, and it quite simply blew me away the amount of turque it had at low RPM, I have since found out the late suds and 33 8v were notorious for torque steer, just what I want!
