Hi All,

Hoping for some help, going to look at a tvr soon and i'm trying to figure out how i'd get it home insurance wise. I've spoken to my insurance company and they said they can't add a car to my policy, swap my policy over, or create a new policy for this type of car (TVR) over that time period (1 day) and they could only do an annual policy.
I thought of dayinsure, but the TVR is not in their car list and their FAQ says that if its not in the list it can't be covered.

Anyone else any ideas other than take someone else with me and they drive it?

Thanks

Matt

Ring your current insurer. I've done this many times when wanting to drive friends' cars and only had to pay an "admin fee" of around £15.

Not quite sure why you only need 1 day cover (?) but if it is going to be your second car and you have a garage, try Hagerty as they did me a great deal on my Chimaera. Ask for Darren as he is an ex TVR owner and knows his stuff.

If you have fully comp on your current car, does that not give you 3rd party insurance to drive other cars? I get that with Privilege.

Hi All, thanks for the replies so far.

With regards to my current insurer, they said they can't add a car to my policy, swap my policy over, or create a new policy for this type of car (TVR) over that time period (1 day) and they could only do an annual policy.

I only need cover for a day to get it home, then after i've done some little jobs like spray the front end, POR15 and waxoyl the chassis and stuff i'll be putting it on the road with a yearly second car policy. But at the moment i just need cover to get it home.
Yep, i am fully comp on my runabout, and i can drive another car but the car has to not be owned by me
Once i sign the registration document, and receipt, the car is mine so this option is not feasible. I could however ask the seller to be flexible about the dates but thats fraud and i doubt he or i would be willing to do that.

Thanks

Matt

Can you get the previous owner to deliver it and sign the paperwork at your house?

Hagerty or Mannings are good places to start. If the other creative suggsetions in the most recent posts don't work, how about taking out a new annual policy then asking if it can be suspended/frozen for the period of time you expect to be off the road (of course with the appropriate credit). Not sure they'll do that but it seems practical so worth asking. Btw, I think those two may offer to 'mirror' your existing NCD by way of a general discount if you are not giving up your main car. Nick.

Even if you are not going to put it on the road for a couple of months then I would suggest you still insure it from the time it becomes yours. Premiums are not that expensive (mines a 4.0 Chimaera, agreed value, 5000 miles a year and still costs less than £200 fully comp) and you would be covered in the event of a fire, flood, etc etc.

£200 annually? Didn't realise it would be so cheap, i'll look into that, thanks, my insurance were giving an annual premium of £850 (26 years old, 7 years NCD, no convictions or claims, garaged, 10k miles a year).

As i've said i've tried dayinsure.

Thanks
