Quick question guys, Got a really nice E30 Touring 318iLux with the M40 engine I believe. (the one with regular timing belt changes). I have had it BMW serviced, (Major Service II) and since it came back it seems to have a tappet rattle. Didn't do this when I first got the car. Do you think the incorrect grade of oil has been put in, taking into consideration it has covered 100k and the obivious wear that would put on components. I understand it has hydralic tappets?
Would it be wise to try a different grade, within engine spec with an additive, if so what would you suggest?
Still loving the car, I know its no sports car but boy does it handle well and goes ok now got Cat removed and sports exhaust fitted.

Sounds like during the oil change some gunge has been dislodged and it has blocked the tappet oil supply.

hope this helps
