Bye bye, Gixer. Hello, Hypermotard.
Discussion
Had a quick punt on a Hypermotard earlier in the week and I think I've fallen in love with it - it's just such an entertaining piece of engineering!
I liked it so much that I'm currently sat on the fence as to whether or not I should sell my current gixer 750 K7 and get the Hypermotard or whether I should just stay put.
The Hypermotard is definitely entertaining and fun - more so than the GSX-R. It's also slower but, at the same time, less likely to make me lose my licence.
On the flip-side, the GSX-R has been flawless and reliable in the last 7,000 miles as well as cheap to maintain and run. I get the feeling the Hypermotard might dent the wallet every now and again.
Help?

That wasn't the most convincing argument in the world, you know.

Well, i've never ridden a Hypermotard! I like sportsbikes: ballistic acceleration, crazy lean angles and scuffed sliders. I rode a Husqvarna last year and was bored half to death - so personally I wouldn't want a supermoto, but it's up to you!
I ran a KTM for a year. Total hooligan! I would get on saying..... "Today I will be sensible!" Most it lasted was a few miles.
As for long distance - The day I bought it I collected it from the shop then drove to Liverpool (from London) for a sandwhich then came back. 480ml that day. Went for a short spin next morning and took it in for 500ml service. Not the most comfortable journey I will grant, but can be done.
Anyway........ Keep both.
And get two for me while you are there!

What make you looking at?
I saw the sexiest super moto ever last week
It was an aprillia SXV5.5

Shame its an Aprillia realy.
I have been thinking about selling the SP1 for a while.
I hardly ever get to use it
I am the weakest link
Its a bitch to ride in town
It so bloody quick the points are just waiting for me.
As a Yoof I had a XT550 which was a hoot on the sort of trips I do now.
BUT
I have this nagging voice that says if I sell the SP! and regret it, I will never get another one

Well you live and learn!Looks sexy too
But I have never once had a positive experiance of Italian vehicle ownership.
A friend bough an RSV Mille and it never even made it home from the shop
Then never once started when required for a sunday blast.
Another 2 guys I know bought ducatis and had trouble and a guy I used to work with waited 14 months for spares for his Laverda. ended up selling it un fixed and lost a shed load of cash.
I wait a flaming..

Basically, you are wrong :PI notice you've had an Uno Turbo. My mate had a 1986 one and it was crazily fast. Crap chassis and lots of lift-off oversteer in the wet but it used to leave its contemporaries for dead. All the cars that leave older PHers soggy eyed like capris, mantas, Golf GTis, escort RS2000s, Escort Turbos etc? Specks in the mirror! Only thing comparable was the R5GTT, which had a much better chassis.
My mate completely abused his one and even let it freeze solid one winter, through carelessness. Come the warmer weather, it thawed out and worked perfectly.

1st one was ace but getting a little old
So I bought a brand new one
2 gearbox rebuilds under warranty
3 weeks off the road in the 1st month
and when the car came back the dealer had damaged it by leaving pliers under the bonnet when he slammed it down.
3rd gear box rebuild required at 13 months and Fiat gave me the finger!.
I wouldn't have been so bad butthe car had done less that 10000 miles mostly commuting by the girlfriend as I had a company car by then.
I vowed never to buy Italian again and apart from Dianesse Leathers and lid I never have.
