Seriously stupid post. What's your point? I don't have the Jag XJ's figures to hand, although I do remember an XK Coupe was weighed at 1750kg+ in a previous EVO COTY. The M6 was a similar weight (1755kg with fuel). The E92 M3 weighs 1535kg according to BMW (some 100kg less than the M6), if you quote it to DIN standard (i.e. excluding the weight of a driver, near full tank of fuel and luggage).
It's pretty pointless to compare the weight of one car with another when the weights you compare are incorrect. Definitely troll-like behaviour..

If it were a post about how the high cost of aluminium construction in the Jag resulting in a lighter car than its peers (i.e. A8, S-Class, 7-Series), although still not a 'light' car then fine. But it would be in the wrong forum.
If it were a post about how the weight of the M3 had risen by 85kg despite the use of more lightweight materials, then that would perhaps have spawned a sensible discussion about why.
But a post started on the premise of incorrect assumptions comparing two cars, with no apparent objective other than to negatively stir the regulars of such forum is the very epitome of troll-like behaviour.
If that was 'not' jellison's intention, then a short 'oops, my mistake' seems in order..

I started this (you can call it waht you like) - but in this age of CAD and the like engineering a Small to medium sized Coupe should be alot lighter than a Big Jag limo.
And weight does matter. Imagine how it would go with that power at a more sensible 1350 or 1400kg which to me is what a car that size with a new all alloy engine should be weighing.

Hmmm...weight is but one part of the equation. The XJ-R may be lighter than its similarly aluminium competitor the A8 but the Audi's torsional rgidity is 36000Nm/degree to the Jag's 22000Nm/degree. Admittedly this won't affect the handling until the effective spring rate measured at the wheels exceeds the shell's torsional rigidity rating, but it may make for some movement in the interior architecture potentially resulting in some irritating rubbing & squeaking sounds.

Besides, I think it's pretty poor that the M3 (The 'Motorsport' version of the standard 3 series coupe) is as heavy as it is. I'm sure the price premium over the standard 3 series coupe will be considerable, and for that I'd expect significant weight savings/performance increase over the next model down in the range (335i), which I don't believe it delivers.
