Evening gents,

Has anyone ever greased the window drive mechanism in the doors? Do you have to take it out to do it? Also what's the best grease to use? Strikes me that after ten years of dust and crap this might be a good idea, specially as I've got the door cards off at the moment.

Cheers,

A.

Did mine only last week, easy job once the door cards are off. Look inside the door (past the plastic and foam sheet which you will have to peel back/re glue on after)you will see the window runners, best to clean them first inside the track, I used a cloth diped in traffic film remover but a little soap and water should do the trick - don't be tempted to use thinners or the like as this will dammage the bristle that the glass runs on. Once the runners are clean just a matter of applying grease to the bristled areas, I used a small syring to run a bead directly into the groove from top to bottom on both sides. The grease to use must be silicon as this will not dry out over time.Once the tracks are greased simply raise and lower the windows 4/5 times (may need to help the motor by gently assisting the glass by hand at first)to help lubricate.Hope this helps!!!

Sounded like he meant the worm drive on the motor to me? I put a little red silicon grease on it (but I use that wherever I can these days, kind a like poly bushes IMHO)

I just worked it in using an artists paint brush as a bit of the worm drive became visible (but the outer was a bit loose wink ). A dab on the pivots as well.. Cant remember too well - I was really just doing it as a 'time out' (working out how the mirror wiring/relay worked to do the mirror upgrade) not as a job itself. It was one of those have a fag, ponder life and look for other little bits do moments...
