Right, after collecting a new monitor after reading that article.

I am astonished. Dumbfounded.

This is just not f*cking on in any way shape or form.

Although seeing interfereing Mrs Jones from down the way take off in pursuit in a Volvo T5R after pootling around town in her brown mini automatic estate for the last 40 years has got to be worth a look/laugh.

I especially liked the bit about it being a more relaxed selection process. Like it needs to be any more relaxed!

It cant happen, if it does, it will be arming the same people who censored the MG ads to jump out in the middle of the road to stop people who are going 1mph above the speed limit. It will be almost impossible to regulate, will open a massive legal can of worms and you can almost guarantee that the people who volunteer will be such a bunch of petty halfwits it will cost more to administer than full time bobbies.

Actually come to think of it that allowing people to jump out in the road is not a bad idea. Range Rovers are quite cheap secondhand arent they?

Matt.

I think they missed a line of the bottom of the report which reads "...whilst still generating revenue.".

Oh FFS !!! What next ??

I am *not* going to take this lying down - it *has* to be challenged, and not just by us lot whinging about it here on this forum.

Letters *will* need to be written (not just talked about) to MPs and representations made to stop this insane legislation from going through !!

As known to most of us, there are guidelines to the use (& abuse) or speed cams whether FIP's or hand held.. surely sticking unqualified plod on the streets will mean more abuse of these guidelines?

I'm sure most of them will go on a power trip and try doing you for anything they can, anywhere they want, whether it is 'legal' in the guidelines or not.

Bollox to it i say, how about every driver in the country go and camp in their cars in the middle of roads and see how the government like it, it would stop the entire country from functioning.

I think we should go the OTHER way, all APPLY for jobs, then when we go out for a whizz, call our "mates" on duty who then happen to be tying there laces when we zoom by.

cant beat um join um!!!!

I would be concerned that these posts will be filled by people who failed to make traffic warden or someone is already an Anti Speed 'do gooder' who pootles about in her metro at 18mph down the motorway blindly oblivious to all the accidents she has caused in her wake and thinking she is a safe driver..

Either way, not good for Joe Public..

I assume that the law would need to be changed to allow civilians to enforce a Criminal Statute ??

What do any Police on the site think ?

Hmmm. Buy a bike, that way you don't need a front number plate.

Did you read about that really sad police force that have set up a special pursuit squad to catch drivers who V-sign camera crews?

How trivial !!!!

If your Tiv (or similar) gets nicked, they ain't too bothered. But dare to go a tad too fast, and suddenly they can devote loads of resource to it. Funny that. Reckon it's anything to do with being HARD WORK to catch a thief, but EASY to nick a speeder???

Oh, by the way, if a civvie tries to pull you over, why not just ignore them? unless empowered via law, they are not entitled to stop you.

Same goes for any disputes. Can't see them having any more credability than us in court. So give them hell. Legally, of course.

Any civvy who tries to flag me down would probably get run at as I would assume he's a car-jacker. Any unlicensed un warrant-carded person in civvies as well!!!

Easy money. This will happen, it means even better return on investment for police authorities, and the world is after all now run on a cost/benefit basis.

The only defence is for as many people as possible to take every step they can to make enforcement of speeding laws as expensive as possible, to bring that cost/benefit ratio up. Unfortunately, the majority will always bottle it and swallow the punishment without a whimper. How many bagged cameras did you see on Nov 5th?

If they are employed by the Police they will cease to be civies and will have appropriate powers.

We'd all rather not be done for speeding but if its going to happen I'd rather be nicked by an auxillary with limited powers than a full blown plod who has the ability to think up all manner of additional charges if he doesn't like my face. Perhaps plod can then spend more time on real crims.

gnomesmith - it's not going to happen unless we let it happen !!

I have very serious misgivings about this scheme and have every reason to believe it will attract entirely the wrong sort of person.

There will be even more anti-police feeling than there is now, some of these people will be assaulted and hurt, they will anger drivers who will have zero respect for these people and there's nothing to say we will see a corresponding improvement in proper crime detection.

I would strongly urge you not to bow down to this one and be legged over by the government yet again.

AFAIK the civvies don't actually stop you, just point and shoot a laser. Mate got nicked at 98mph in his WRX in Wales somewhere, empty motorway early on a sunday.

He ended up in court.
I guess if you're going to get nicked like that the cops would rather that they get a trained monkey (Sorry I mean concerned member of local population) to pull the trigger so they can do something mroe interesting instead.

As for porsche vandalisation I assume this was highly imagnitive thing to do, so key/coin run down the side...

How did you guess Notts?!

RE: motorway wrx, more reason for the bike!

Personally I find it less risk to speed on a busy road - less chance of a "direct hit" from laser or radar. Which is actually very perverse, as a busy road is more dangerous. Oh well.

The curent answer to these civie f***ers is to drag the bastards down to the zoo, sorry police station and report them for impersonating a police officer. Revealing the smashed laser gun (which happened by accident during the citizens arrest, along with the broken ribs and pelvis). As the greens are not publicising their latest craze then how are we to know this stupidity is in fact supported by the constabulary? Incidentally the Gr$$npeace bastards have just given us a great opportunity to nick their publicity. All we need to do is wait for the next boycott Esso day and then go and peacefully display plackards calling them liars etc. I confronted some of these scum today and came pretty close to being able to kick the shit out of one of them. I reckon with a bit more provocation he would have snapped. I only left because I was in the Porsche and the CCTV would have my plate recorded. Next time I am going in on foot.
