I have just bought an A6 Avant.
Lovely in everyway, but the calipers are rank, rusty metal.
What colour to paint them is the question?
The car is black with silver mirrors see my profile.

My view is silver?

Thanks

Got to agree - black every time... except...

I've had the same problem, and on my Nogaro Blue S4 I painted the calipers
gloss black after rubbing down comprehensibly.

I've got a Dolphin grey S4 now, and find the same problem again - they just get a bit old and scruffy looking, so I've again rubbed down the calipers, and also the "hat" of the brake rotor, and painted both with silver paint this time. It goes better with the car paint colour.

What colour is your car, as this may make the difference between either black or silver looking best...

Red brakes on a non Porsche car just looks like you're trying a bit too hard, if you know what I mean?

The car's black.
The rears look galvanised (silver) the fronts are rusty they are the only bit that lets the car down.
I am leaning toward silver.

I agree.

I used Halfords silver paint for repainting steel wheels - it's OK and showing a little sign of deterioration, but cheap to re-do if it goes bad.

A job for next weekend as I have just got in from cheffing at a BBQ for the Northampton Saints Rugby club,
As an aside they must be sponsored by Audi there was a wealth of Q7's.

Thanks for all input.

I have a black S4 and painted the calipers red with silver Audi decals, looks striking. However having changed the front calipers to RS Brembos that are already black, I have now painted the rears balck with silver '4 ring' decals and it looks equally as good, although not as striking.

Paintwise, there is special caliper paint on fleabay but a tin of smooth Hammerite does the trick just as good.

I've got a new set of calipers going on any time now (I think the standard S4 setup is woefull), however they're Brembo's but off of a 996 Turbo so rather than the Brembo logo they are red and carry the Porsche Logo. I'm still in two minds if I should re paint them black and have no logo's (the Porsche name is machined into the surface so it would simply be painted out but still there) or leave them exactly as is in the same way that the RS2's have red Porsche calipers? It's on a red S4 if that makes any difference. Opinions? Oh yes and the 375mm fully floating drilled discs only leave 3mm clearance between the back face of the caliper and the wheel which means you even have to be a bit carefull when fitting balancing weights!!!
