Does anyone happen to know if means testing still applies to court summons on traffic offences ?

A mate of mine was up in court for 114MPH two weeks ago.

He had a letter with him outlining his earnings and monthly outgoings (he's in the 40% tax band) with a view to asking the court for a higher fine in lieu of a smaller / no ban.

Result?

Three week ban and £350 fine so very lenient all round really.

Yep, and it's totally un fair. I got a £400 fine and 30 day ban last year for 105mph.

Chris evans got the same a few weeks later and Geri Haliwell only a £300 for over 60mph in a 30.

It really depends on the judge - I had the bitch from hell...and now have very little respect for motoring laws.

I regularly see reports in my local paper of drink drivers getting less than £200 fines.

Where the hell's their priority?

Personally I'd be rather cautious about my correct salary on a means test again...

huh, lucky I'm between jobs right now then

Hopefully I go to court before I'm working next.

On the other hand, I'm mitigating, and expect to be let off..

It doesn't matter how rich you are.

£4.99 from Marks and Spencer - and that's for a pack of three
