Back on the Road
Discussion
Well after nearly 3 months off the road following the shunt. The Ro is rolling, faster than i remember.
One thing i have noticed is that the LSD is clunking a little at low speed and more in reverse. It didnt do it before the enforced rest.
About 2 months earlier I had the diff oil changed by those gr8 guys at Monkfish and everything was fine (lovely black lines and no clunks)
Is this anything to do with not being driven for 3 months?
Should i add some modifier (kindly supplied by Roger) and if so how much

I had my diff oil changed by Monkfish recently. Prior to having it changed, the lsd wasn't working properly, the 'inside' wheel would spin up on a bend. With the new oil in, the lsd was certainly working properly, I could leave 2 nice black rubber lines on the road on a bend, but, the diff became very clunky on slow bends with the clutch dipped, and it made even more noise when reversing. Roger sent me a bottle of friction modifier, I put in half of the bottle, not much improvement, put in the rest of the bottle and it seems to have solved the problem now. Tested it today and I can still leave two black lines on the road

3 months
- What was the hold up?delay was lack of availability of parts, still waiting for the bit of plastic that covers the top of the radiator. Any way all fixed now and no stone chips. I dont recommend this way of fixing them but every cloud has a silver lining.
PS thanks GSE how big was the bottle?

The stuff Monkfish sent me is "Red Line Limited Slip Differential friction modifier / break in additive"
Made in the US and comes in a 4 US fluid ounces (0.118 litre) bottle.
This is what's written on the bottle:
"Limited slip or posi-traction use plates or clutches to provide the proper amount of lock up to the differential. Slippery lubricants are required to prevent chatter, but too much slipperiness causes excessive wheel spin, reducing traction. For perfect traction use Red Line 75W90NS and add this product until the chatter disappears. Satisfies performance requirements of GM 1052358, Ford M2C118-A, M2C196-A, 19B546-MA, Chrysler 4318060 and most imports. Recomended dosage: Use 4% for prevention of limited slip chatter in broken-in units (typically one bottle) or 4 - 8% for the break in of a new differential. This product will significantly reduce the friction during break in of differentials. High temperatures encountered during break in can destroy the hardening of the gear teeth causing rapid wear of the softened gears. This product can reduce break in temperature by as much as 50% improving break-in conditions. This product is compatible with petroleum or synthetic gear oils. Red line gear oils already contain this product (except NS)"
I assume Monkfish put a bottle of this stuff in when the oil was changed, but as I had the harrop diff cover fitted as well (looks like it doubles the oil capacity) it looks like I needed extra. I will be using the car on a long run tomorrow I hope the chatter has gone.
