i'm in the process of getting a supercharger fitted with about 550-580 fwbhp. Is it worth increasing the width of the standard rear tyres to accomodate?

Oz guys often run 275's on the rear. Fronts about 245 is the max. You might need to roll the guards.

will 275s fit on the standard 19" rims and will it add strain to the transmission?

Running a Harrop LS112 at 6psi on 245 35 19`s I managed a 0-60 of 4.9 sec`s using a perf meter.

Didn`t push that hard , just waited for grip, so there`s prob a fair bit more left.

IMO that`s quick enough off the line, any faster will need wider tyres (which is the purpose of your post no doubt) for better traction, then something else will give, something expensive.

What you loose 0-60 you`ll get back 60-120. Thats where the Monaro is King.

If you want serious 0-60 get a VXR220 and play with that, the Monaro`s just too heavy.

I suppose you are right, I'm aware there isn't that much grip to start with and I don't see the point of spinning it all away. Cars with similar power often have much wider rears, take a look at a 911 turbo or M5 to see what I mean. The last thing I want to do is snap a half shaft or similar but can't help thinking the standard tyres are a bit skinny?

please can someone tell me which tyres fit the standard cv8 rims. Should I stick with 245s or add something wider, what are the rest of you running on your modified 'ros?

The standard 18" rims will take an absolute maximum of 275 but I don't think the insurance assessor will be so sympathetic in the event any, heaven forbid, accidents.

I enquired about having rear 255/35 19 with 245/35 19 fronts and several garages locally weren't happy about that request. They all said the rears would have to be a lower profile than the fronts due to increased width and in this era of the compensation culture were only really happy to stick with the manufacturers specs for my rims. But that's just my experience.

The American LS1 forum is the place to look for ideas on wheel/tyre combo's on both stock and aftermarker rims.

seems a bit silly to me that they sould be bothered by a 10mm increase in width. We bikers experiment with different tyre combinations all the time. I think I'll just put on some 255s and see what happens.

Safe max for 8" is apparently 245 tyres. Ive seen a few guys say they use 255's which Id like to use on the back only next time..

Cheers. I've just checked & to make sure I have this right, my CV8 currently runs 235/40 ZR18 on standard (8" ?) rims. If I keep the same size at the front and widen the rears to 255/35 ZR18 I should have no issues?
