I've had a noisy gearbox for a few weeks now - it sounds like a rattle at idle which disappears when the clutch pedal is depressed - my initial thought would have been the release bearing but it's had a new CT slave/bearing unit a few months back with no issues until recently. The noise is very pronounced and noticeable from inside the car particularly when reversing and doesn't sound healthy at all. It's been diagnosed as a suspect failing main shaft bearing. Any further thoughts anyone - and a recommendation for a specialist to rebuild/repair it? I really don't want the car off the road for weeks & weeks as I have many more activities planned for the "summer" Thanks biggrin

Competition Transmission Services were very helpful when I called them (think the syncros on my 5th gear will need work at some point, so was just pricing up). The quoted me around £300 for a refresh of the gearbox (basically the components that typically wear) or £595 for an exchange unit. Getting the box out of the car, carriage to them and back in was not included in those prices from what I remember.

Take a look at this.

I may consider this if I kill my box again.
