i'm after a bit of help please, i've never had a bmw with sat nav, and i'm looking at an 03 plate M3 which says it has birds eye 3D sat nav. Is this just the standard professional sat nav system or something different. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks Bri

Its standard I would assume. Birds-eye just means that its looking down at the map, which pretty much every sat nav does.

Careful with it - it doesn't work too well by the sea as it's further from the satelites. Best stay on high ground to get the best results.

It helps to speak politely to the nice lady inside it too...

dont piss about installing aftermarket stereo equipment in there, if you screw up the sat nav the little woman can escape, trust me, its a hard job trying to catch a 3" tall woman crawling around under the seats, and god forbid she gets in the air ducts, this happened with mine so I turned up the fans to full and she got shredded as she came out of the heater vent. made a right mess.

Keeping the sun-roof open helps signal reception.

so it is the standard system then. coz i've seen quite a few M3's with after market kits which are usually alpine or kenwood and have a fold away screen which i don't like the look of!

Now the piss taking has stopped rolleyes you need to give a bit more info on the kit that is in the car.

If it has a fixed BMW OEM 16:9 screen in the middle of the dash and a Mk4 Nav computer in the boot then with the correct version of the operating system you will be able to get perspective view. I have this set up and the OS is V29. If it's not already set to perspective veiw you have to go into the set menu and set it. Once done you can change between perspective and regular veiw from the map screen by pressing the right hand button and scrolling to veiw.

If you are buying the car and it's advertised as perspective view, ask the current owner/dealer to show you how.

interestingly, in-car satnavs are so expensive (Mercedes' COMAND is £3k) because they send the women to Finishing School.

Try and get an earlier car. Instead of the lady you had a chaps voice. Always felt he was more likely to know where to go than the lady.

Guaranteed every incident where cars end up in streams or fields is when the women is directing.
