So - I am resigned to say that over 150mph the car doesn't pick up very well. It is a combo of 497bhp and 420ftlbs and the fact that I rather ambitiously went for a 228mph top gear. So I now go from 6900 in 4th to 5000 in 5th (peak torque at 4200 and peak BHP around 6800) and the car just bogs at around 150mph.

So options are:
1) more power
2) different gearing (possibly)

Before I do any of this I want find out if I am getting the best out o the engine at these speeds - ie. is the engine getting enough air into the filter at the right temp etc.

Question is - how the fook do i find out? Pressure sensor? Air fuel sensor? Temp guage?

Your thoughts?

Use a datalogger to check.... then a supercharger to make SURE

Fit megasquirt! Either do what I am doing with the ignition of go for injection as well. I have air/fuel meter, water temp, inlet pressure, inlet air temp and knock fitted!

After Steve D's issue have you cleaned the air and fuel filters?

Always good to know what's going on in the engine. AFR gauge will give you a good indication. I have the innovate motorsport one on the dash. Air inlet temp and pressure also give you good indications. They will tell you if you have any air restrictions and if inlet temps are getting too hot. I was datalogging my engine at the weekend and it makes for interesting reading. I found out that I have maxed out my 50lb/hr injectors as the datalog told me they were at 86% duty cycle. At that point I had about 3/4 throttle and was making 8.5psi boost and I was going quite fast.biggrin

I'll try and post my datalog later.

Why not fit NOS to kick in at the point where the engine revs need a bit of help?

NO2 sounds interesting. Anyone tried that on the SBC ? High octane petrol might add a few extra bhp too - what is everyone running out there ?

On a related note, when is the next (short) Vmax blast ? I'm sort of opposite to Lucky, should have better bhp but have realised that even with the 8000 limit and high rev bhp band I will hit the limiter at just short of 200mph. Bugger. Should have spent the extra wonga on the Powerhous gears ... But a 2/3 mile run sounds ideal, will be at the next one (so long as I can put my valves back in the right order ...)

CanAm Dave, it looks like you should step up to the plate for the next big speed run !!! You're the man !

Tony.

I have megasquirt and spark. Gains when I get round to connecting it is the 12X12 mapable ignition tables. I also have a potential of closed loop around the knock sensor that will advance until knock dectection then take back while it listens again. Other bits are better economy, flat spot removal, hot start, better cold start and numnerous other little bits!

This Sunday, VMax-Sunrise, spaces available. I'm only going for the with and without spoiler BtoB testing. I could do with the company.......any takers?

I'd keep away from knock if I was you! Better to setup your igntion map on a rolling road. It's the only way to see power comparisons for certain ignition values.

Lucky P: if you decide on a N02 kit let me know. I have a new NOS system set up for a under a Holley carb operation with lines, bottle, electric's ect. It came on a car that I quickly resold. Since its going to the Ultima cause I,d sell the whole thing for $100 and shipping from California. The braided lines probably cost that much. But I would excpect to see you win next time. Lee

I will do both. Temp ranges vary so much. I have done vmaz at 5c and at 30c this gives a hell of a range!

Hi Tony

I need to finish playing with my engine first before I attempt doing any events. As I only have the Getrag box I will be very limited top speed. Hope to get a different final drive at some point or a different box. I've decided to fit my monster 65lb/hr injectors before my next dyno session. These are low immpedance so will require the use of my auxillary injector driver unit which I fitted in my electronics panel just in case. I will have to make a new injection loom to connect to the driver unit. All good fun! Hopefully I won't max out these injectors. nuts

V-max sunrise ? Where is it, what time and how long is the run ?

In all honesty, unlikely to make it as have a late night Sat, but if it's localish there is a very good chance !

More importantly, where is the next one ? Is there a list on PH somewhere ?

Good luck with the wing trials Lucky, I eagerly await the results !

Tony.

PS. Dave, Monster Injectors ? Having seen that engine bay I would expect nothing less !!

Dunno when the next one is.....I only plan a month in advance!

Hi P, what about noise restrictions?
I was thinking about going, but didn't want to waste time and money if Ultimas are too noisey. Do they still have places left this late in the day?

Noise restrictions are always an issue due to numpty land we live in. Last event Lucky was fine and we had no problems as it was a saturday. Sunday may be a bit more of a problem as they complain more on Sundays. Still debating to take the ult but.....

This is turning out nice.

Blue knows more about the noise restrictions than I, but I think we all know that our issues lie with static testing, whereas once the Ultima is off and running it a lurvley deep rumble and not a howl like other cars that were there.

Let's all go and we can have unoffical drag race down the back straight!!

Looking good!!

Gary, Guy, Tony, let's do it. It'll be a hoot!!
