A month or two ago, I was caught by a camera van doing 97mph in a 70 NSL zone. No biggie - once the conditional offer came through, I identified myself as the driver, and was sent a conditional offer of 3 points and £60.

A combination of postal strikes and bad organization on my part resulted in my cheque/license arriving 4 days too late, and I've received them both back in the post today, telling me that my conditional offer has been withdrawn and I've been reported to the procurator fiscal.

Can anyone tell me what I can expect for this? It's my first endorsement in 10+ years of driving, and I'm a bit worried.

Thanks in advance,

Erd

If you're pleading guilty and explain that you tried to accept the conditional offer, you might get lucky and get 3 points, £60 plus £35 odd court costs. I don't know whether Scotland enforces the new victim surcharge of £15 too.

If you're unlucky the magistrate might not have had his/her morning blowjob and the points and fine might be higher accordingly.

Dress smart, be apologetic and honest in court.

In England the threshold for a conditional offer is 96mph!

Thanks guys.

The only reason I'm worried is because I realise I was lucky to get a fixed penalty for 97 in a 70 zone. BTW, this happened about 200 miles from where I stay, and whilst I don't mind getting the old suit on and taking a drive to court, what effect would pleading guilty by letter have on the outcome?

My plan so far is to plead guilty by way of a polite letter, if possible, and state in the letter that I was only a few days overdue in accepting the conditional offer. I don't like making excuses, but there genuinely was a postal strike in my area too, so would it be worth mentioning this in the letter?

Just wondering, what was the outcome?
