Hello all.. Does anyone know the best way to stick a CD shuttle to the fuel tank? I cut away the foam and “No-Nailed” 2 pieces of wood to the tank. Left it a day and then screwed the brackets onto the wood… and it was crap. The CD player came away with the wood just by touching it..

Has anyone had any better luck?

Cheers

I used huge (wide, not long) self tapping type screws and screwed a thin piece of plywood to the back of the panel - then drilled through the panel and plywood to fit the changer unit. Works just fine.

Mines screwed through the carpet/card type trim panel. Never moved in 2 and a half years.

I'm not saying it's the way forward, but if you want a good glue try SIKAFLEX.

I think however mine is screwed in position.

Hope this helps.

Theres a sheet of fibreglass behind the carpet above the tank. I removed this then screwed a block of wood to the bulkhead from the carpet side. The CD unit was then screwed to a replacement MDF panel along withg the amps, and the whole shebang screwed back to the wood block.

What car we talking about Nigel, can;t see from your profile? Anyway the amp and 6CDxchanger in my Griff are mounted vertically on the carpeted trim board above the tank with Velcro and have been there OK for 4 years. Rich...

I assumed from the forum that the car was a Chimaera!

My install might sound OTT, but I do have two heavy amps as well as a 12 CD changer, so I didn't expect the standard backing for the carpet to be man enough. If its just a CD changer alone then I'd probably used machine screws and nuts from Halfords to mount to the standard board above the tank - the shaped piece that fits over the filler neck. Its just a push fit, not fastened.

I assume the changers / amps are to better hear the pre-recorded V8 tunes people must be listening to!
Why else actually fit an ICE system ?

My 6-CD changer is mounted through the carpeted panel to two bit's of 2"x2" wood, using four screws. These blocks are then screwed to the rear bulkhead. Solid, stable, retains the carpet and generally a good solution. On the other hand, if you need to keep getting to the petrol tank or similar you'll end up with two supporting blocks like swiss cheese where the screws make a fresh hole each time. Not happened yet, but it could...

Just a thought.

If you brought an MP3 player and a CD rewriter (you could record about 10-15 albums on a disc) you would not need to mount a CD changer!

Or get an MP3 player with internal hard drives - no CD's needed at all.....
