Rules regarding Truvelo's

Does anyone know the excact rules regarding truvelo's
A friend of mine has recieved a NIP from a camera just before the rushmore flyover in portsmouth (this is a new one I have seen it myself). Now she was with her husband and he said that when there was a flash they remember a car over taking them on the outside lane. The NIP claims they were doing 50 in a 40 (I think). Now being a little countryfied my friend thought that speed limit was NSL at this point becasue the camera is on the left had side of the road which is a lane that does not go over the flyover separated from the other 2 by a thick broken white line, she was just following the other traffic.
My question is what about the person overtaking her on her right surely the camera can't take a picture of two cars at the same time and if the other was going faster (which it was becuase it was overtaking) surely the camera picked up that car?????

Not too sure but..If they were going over the flyover and the camera is way to the left at the side of the road, the loops will have to be on the flyover to trigger the camera. Its not very likely for the loops to cover just the "inside" lane, if it is a duel laned carriageway, however, if they do just cover the inside lane then it would explain how they got caught?
If both of the cars were speeding and both caught on the same photo, I thought the NIP couldn’t be processed and the photo would have to be rejected, i.e. it had to be a clear shot of just the vehicle alone exceeding the limit?
I’m surprised they saw a flash from a truvelo.
Hopefully madcop et al will clear this up for you.

Thats what I thought too... Saying that, im convinced i saw the truvelo on the a43 at silverstone "flash" red at somebody coming in the other direction whilst i was sat in the roadworks there one night. Well yes I advised them to write a letter saying 'I'm not sure what speed I was doing but at the time I noticed the flash I was being over taken by another car, are you sure it was my vehicle that set off the camera?' This effectivly asks politely for the evidence and doesn't admit to anything. They are unsure of how fast they were going and where generally follwoing other cars except the one over taking them.
