What is the recommended engine oil specification?

Does any one know what would cause the negative battery terminal to be coated in a white powder residue, I was thinking that it could be caused by boiling battery acid or possible the engine not having a good earth?

Powder is lead sulfate and is generally caused by overfilling batteries, resulting in overflow during driving or charging. It's strange it should appear as the Noble battery should be a "sealed for life" type.

Wearing gloves, take diluted ammonia or baking soda and rinse the terminals, and anything that the water being used to rinse them comes into contact with. Then wire brush the terminals and connectors, smear both with petrolium jelly (Vaselin) and reconnect.
