Hi Kevin,

Simple solution is to put some decat pipes on the car and when it comes around to MOT time then just borrow a set of cats off someone on the forum. There would be plenty of people who would be willing to lend you a set for this purpose.

You can buy the decat pipes from plenty of places and they range from about £110-150.

Jules.

Find an exhaust maker to make up a couple of cheap cats to get you through an MoT.

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/01-200-200-CELL-SPORT-CATALY...

Then buy some cherry bombs from ACT to replace the Cats, they're too bl••dy close to the bodywork anyway.

Oh, and if they've overheated check the reason why they overheated, is the car overfueling.

De-cat pipes, do they make it mega loud or are they a type of baffle system? Sorry for my ignorance! Can anyone give me a phone number of where to get some? All your help is appreciated.

Kevin,

Read my reply on the other thread you have posted on. I have put a direct link to a website which has a contact phone number on.

The standard de-cats do make the exhaust system louder, but the linked de-cats are only slightly louder than the cats.

Just google track car solutions or act performance or tvr car parts. All do de-cats tcs do linked one's which are quieter. De-cats are just straight bits of pipe so will be loader.Which isn't always a bad thing!

Do a search for them on google putting TVR in front, there are quite a few, one here that does TVR ones http://www.bmcatalysts.co.uk/

Got mine for the Tuscan TVR parts & here are the Cerebera ones http://www.tvrcarparts.com/pages/parts.asp?searchs...

As has already been said cats do not belong on a TVR it's like socks with sandals!

I bought some de-cat silencers from ACT 3 months ago (£200ish).

Means the car has a deeper note at idle (not much louder?) & gets louder once you get over 4000rpm.

HIGHLY recomended.....

Excuse my ignorance, but why would superheated/farked cats give a bill of £1300 when new cats are about £400-500?

I agree Fubes, £1300 sounds a bit steep, but I do recall that factory sourced cats were horrendously expensive (£900 seems to ring a bell), so that could be a major contributor. A bit of labour and vodka an tonic on top and you're around that price.

However, the ACT cats are £225 each and how much time does it actually take to change the cats out - an hour or so? Even if just the ACT cats are bought separately, the bill ought to be half the original figure, it depends on how much more work is required to diagnose the root cause and rectify. As TT Tim says, the important thing is to work out why the cats got cooked, before another set is toasted.

Steve.

I find in normal driving, with a standard exhaust, it's reasonably quiet, with a nice "bark" when you're higher up the revs.

It's my favourite combination.
