Audi A6 4.2, timing belt last done just over four years ago, so it is now due.

Local recommended Audi specialist is quoting me £832 for this, however, they are including:

belt change
all other belts
all tensioners
hydraulic damper
rollers
water pump
anti freeze

All of which they are recommending while they are on the job.

All replaced with genuine Audi parts.

£315 labour, which means Just over £500 parts.

Is this reasonable? Can I get the parts cheaper myself? Does it all need doing?

Has anyone managed cheaper in the South West?

The old addage paying peanuts and getting monkeys to do the work comes to mind. I would bite the bullet if i were you, you have a car with fairly complex timing equipment on it and you want to scrimp on the maintenance!!!!

I dont understand when people buy and drive cars with complex engines and then moan about the servicing costs.

Why dont you try some back street scrap dealer in Bristol, im sure he would be much cheaper, i doubt you would get far down the road, after having it done, before you engine retired then you would be complaining that you need 4K for a new engine.

I had the cambelt done on my Golf GTi TDi 150 a few months ago, including a service that was over 700 quid, so yours doesnt sound too bad, peace of mind and all that.

Thanks for that.

I am not looking to cut corners. Just wanted to make sure the price was a reasonable one.

I did expect much higher servicing costs when I bought a V8, so I am prepared for a few shocks smile

Try VW/Audi Centre in Stonehouse, J13, M5. They look after my cars ok and prices are reasonable.
