Hi All,

Just bought myself a Chimaera, got a problem with its mirrors.
When i bought the car, the electric mirrors didn't work, so i checked the fuses and found the 30amp heater mirror fuse blown, replaced this and now they energised.

But, any movement on the mirror adjuster in the door, alters the drivers side mirror, i cannot get it to select and move the passenger mirror at all. Any suggestions?

Also, the rear view mirror is loose on its mountings, anyone any idea how i can tighten this up, or how do i remove it so i can put a stick on mirror on.

Its a 1997 450

Thanks

Matt

Just to be clear, If you select the passenger side, the drivers side still moves or nothing happens?

Thats right, if you press the passenger side button, the drivers side mirror still moves, like its not changing over inside the control box.

Thanks

What's the mirror control switch(es) look like? There are different versions that work in different ways.

Like a brushed silver unit, drivers side door, in the door pocket, two buttons at the top and a directional control underneath those.

Any use?

Thanks

The mirrors are controlled by an ECU under (inside) the dashboard. It sounds like either the ECU is faulty, or the mirror select button in the door, or the wiring between the two.

A good place to start would be to remove the speaker in the drivers door and check the connectors behind it, for the wiring between the main loom and the door components.

Yep. When they face-lifted the dashboard they introduced three ECUs: exterior lighting (including hazard lights), variable speed fan motor and mirror control.

One of the connectors to the fan motor ECU tends to melt, I haven't heard of any issues with the lighting ECU (although mine sometimes turns the hazard warning indicator on when the right indicator's on. But not always!) and I haven't heard of problems with the mirror ECU (perhaps until now) but mine's newer than the car which would suggest it had to be replaced in the past.

Don't forget that you have to press the mirror selection buttons for a few seconds before they work just pushing them once does not.

Mine's not like that.

The controls do nothing without the ignition on. Then the direction control still does nothing until you select LH or RH mirror. One brief press of the button does it. One brief press of the other button selects the other mirror.

Do the ECU's run Windows software? Could that be the reason they aren't working..

Last week I had a wonky mirror and Perry Mott (V8 Centre) fixed it (took HIM nearly an hour).
He tested the mirror after fixing and said 'keep forgetting that on the later models you have to press the selection buttons a few seconds before they work'.

TVR's ehh, like women, you can and you can't.
