S2000 - Leaking roof

Hi!

I have a problem with the British Weather - my52 S2K leaks whenever the heavens open, if it's left in medium/heavy rain and then driven off, I and any passanger get a shoulder of water from the lining of the roof! The water sits in the aluminium support that you can see if you look at the top of the side window, it runs along this as you pull away and poors out the centre where ther roof folds(About midway along the top of the driver/passenger window). I can't work out where it gets in from as the front of the alu molding forms part of the roof catch mount.

Please help as I don't think the Summers getting any better and I'm fed up with explaining why I have a tea towl in the car!

Load s of convertables do similar things

Merc SLKs drip water on to your right knee when you open the drivers door
Saabs do the same, more or less.
The old CRX could leak at the top, front edge of the window glass if not adjusted correctly.

I don't think there is anything on the S2k that can be adjusted though.

Have you greased the seals at all? (Waits for smart-alec comment from someone...)

Get some shin-etzu grease and sparingly rub into the rubber seals around the hood...it's quite possible that the water is getting past a bit where the seal's gone stiff (I'm in big trouble now...) and isn't touching the glass/windowframe/whatever.

Hi guys

Have now got some Shin-Etzu - something Honda in fleet didn't even know was a Honda product until I gave them the part number! It's true that Honda Garages don't seem to know much about the S2K!!! they're not aware of any issues with roof leaks and could offer no help when shown where the water was getting in.

I lubed up my rubber on Friday and am now wating for a good downpoor - Fortunately/unfortunately it hasn't rained all bank holiday weekend so I'm gonna get the raindancing gear on later ;-)

Fingers crossed this will solve my dilema - will update with the outcome following the next downpoor. BTW spraying with a hose during cleaning didn't show signs although I think it needs to be consistant heavy raing for a good hour before water gets in.

Yep good old silicon grease
I would also recommend white lithium grease on the joints in the frame.
My 05 leaked as the seals didn't sit properly on the window.
Greased the seal and lubed the joints. Its water tight enough to pressure wash now!

I know this was first posted last year but I had a guy with the same issue so here's my solution -

After applying the Shin-Etsu lube, I still had the same problem so I went to Halfords and bought the Auto Glem Fablic roof clean & condition set as a last resort. After applying this the roof had a new lease of life and no matter how hard it rained either sitting still or driving, not a drop got in!!! So it was actually the top layer lining allowing water to penetrate through to the second and seep to the runners and storing there untill you first pull away, at which point you and your passenger had wet shoulders!!!

Now enjoying the early Feb sunny day's :-)
