I recently (a few months ago) had both the master and slaves done. Now first gear is difficult to engage again. This was symtomatic of the slave failure a couple of months ago. Do you think there could be air in the system? surely it hasn't failed me already.

the bleed valve is on a braided hose near the bonnet lock mechanism, the reservoir is under the flap on the drivers side inner wing. It's well worth bleeding it first to see if that helps, its free (well bar a little fluid) and only takes 5 mins. Can you get into 2ns when stationary and pull away for example? If so that sounds strange....

OK, so I just checked my clutch fluid. I am shocked.

The fluid is about an inch down, but worst of all there seems to be a load of sludgy cloudy stuff in the bottom of the stem leading to the master cylinder. I have never seen this before, especially in a car that has had numerous fluid changes. Perhaps a stupid question, but where does the sludge come from ?

I'm afraid you will probably found that is the remains of a shredded seal.

Thanks, but I hope not, 'cause both slave and master were replaced not so long ago. Hopefully the system just now needs a bleedin good bleeding
