Volkswagen to end production of original Beetle

Volkswagen has announced production of the original Beetle will finish by the end of July.

According to reports by German TV station RTL and newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichten, the very last old-style Beetle car will be made at the Puebla factory in Mexico in July.

The bubble-shaped car has been around for almost 70 years with over 21.5 million cars having been manufactured. Fifty-three cars are currently produced daily in the Puebla factory.

A spokesman for Volkswagen confirmed production was coming to an end. But did not state an exact date.

there are a fair few in this country,my mate has a lhd 1981 silver special edition model,the original paint jobs are crap (no rain in mexico so its quite a thin job) but the styling and running gear is all the same.
