My Husqvarna is going this weekend, after months of half-arsedly trying to get rid of it. I am selling it as it is just too extreme for the mixed use that I wanted it for (runs on premix, no electric start, on/off throttle etc), and I need something a touch (but not too much) softer and more sensible. I want to be able to head up to North Weald enduro track, for some jumps, do a bit green-laning, and also use it on the road when the big bike does not appeal.

I am thinking of a KTM EXC450, or, possibly, just getting a Suzuki DR. The KTM will doubtless be better on the track, and in the tough stuff, and is the preferred option, but maybe the DR will do the job fine.

Any thoughts, or other suggestions?

It needs to start on the button, have a bit better finish than the competition-spek husky, and generally, just be good fun.

What are they like?

After riding a "trail bike" all over Baja last year, I came away feeling a bit silly at having bought an out-and-out MX bike.

I suppose what I am asking is will the suxzukis cut it for a bit of high-jinx over the jumps?

They sure will NB, my Brother in law had one for a while and used too go to Alwinton with me, Yea the KTM is a "sexy beast" but if you want fun without hassle, the DRZ will be hard too beat.

I'm sure we did this earlier this year NB.

We probably did. I never put in the effort to sell the bike, though, and booze killed the memories.

There seem to be plenty of DRs around. Are they all the same, though, or are there "pukka" ones and cooking ones?

I ask, as I used to have a DT175WR, which was nothing whatsoever like the DTs imported here officially.

I'm not an expert on them NB, but the Brother in laws was an enduro, which didn't have an electric start, I am sure you can buy one with the electric foot though.

I'm sure someone will be along too say they are shite, take no heed though, as they don't know what they are talking about.

Recommended by me.

Who always buys Yamaha's.

Metal Tank the roadie one, plastic tank the Enduro one, i think they are good if you dont want to get too serious off road. if you want to do jumps then you will at least have to change the rear spring as they are too soft. They are on the heavy side too. Smaller two strokes with no electric start is not really a problem, 4 strokes a bitch. I love my KTM 200 EXC and have ridden a fair bit of other stuff, but nothing so far would change me. Yam 250 Enduro with electric foot was pretty good though.

Thanks very much.

The husqvarna has maybe made me realise that I needed to stop alwys buying the most extreme version of whatever I was after. I still want to be able to have some fun, but I also wnt a bike that does not give me blurred vision and a headache after half a mile.

I think that I will see about finding a Suzuki, There should be plenty about, ,and they don't lok too pricey.

I need my pennies, as I am heading down to get an RS4 in the morning, if I do not suffer yet another brain fart when I see something else shiny en-route...
