e39 530d remapped verses focus st
Discussion
Why would you pit a 530d against a standard ST? They're hardly in the same league. The 530d is an impressive car, but heavy. The latest model 530d does the 60 sprint in about the same time as a standard ST (6.6 sec vs. 6.5 sec) and is limited to 155mph. The ST will touch 152mph in standard trim.
The new 535d is more than a match for a stock ST (trust me!) in a straight line and it's no slouch in the corners either.
Having said that, £500 sees the ST remapped to around 270bhp and 330lb/ft - a whole new ballgame. A remapped 335d will pull away from a mapped ST though, very impressive car.
Sounds like this is to settle an argument of some sort...?

is it just me, or is the subject of 'remapping' getting a little boring?
isn't it just one up from the lads in Halfords car park 'modding' their cars?
surely, once you start comparing modded this to modded that, the arguement as to which car is better/faster becomes irrelevant?
is a standard 530d faster than an standard ST - no
is a standard 535d faster than an standard ST - yes
I chose my 335i over the 335d because, amongst other things, it was quicker AS STANDARD

When there's easy 'wins' to be had from mapping, it's hardly a boring subject. The remaps actually make the car feel more like it SHOULD do as standard, improving driveability and - oddly - economy. Given that it's a genuine performance increase, it's a long way away from the Halfords brigade (who stick tat on).isn't it just one up from the lads in Halfords car park 'modding' their cars?

I agree with comparisons on modded 'X' vs standard 'Y'. There's so many factors they're not even really comparable.
The 335i is a lovely car though, very nice. Are you pleased with it?

just don't tell the tax man
(or my clients for that matter)
seriously, I kicked myself when our expenses rules changed and I could no longer 'benefit' from driving a diesel company car....I vowed there and then to get something that does 20ish to the gallon next...

Don't get mine until mid September - can't wait. The 80k miles Audi TDi that I'm currently piloting is not making the wait any easier
I chose the 335i on the basis that, when I'm not in the mood, it'll still keep up with 95% of traffic and, when I am in the mood, it'll respond to the lunatic in me...and sound awesome whilst doing it
