I was going to get a bike one but thought the price was a bit too much. So I bought the Garmin 610d (nearly half price). When I want to use it on the bike I either use it in the clear bit of the tank bag or I use one of those map holders that ramblers use.

Also when searching the web I did see the garmin 610 with the "Good pub guide" pre loaded. But as I bought mine from halfords it doesn't have it. Does anyone know if it is possible to get as an add on. I think it would be a great addition.

Just ordered a Garmin Zumo 550 for my dad. Would be very interested to hear what you think of it.

Have also ordered a Nuvi 370 to replace my venerable 6 year old PDA based TomTom.

I bought the Zumo 550 before I went to France/Spain earlier this year. It was brilliant for following the route I'd planned through the Pyrenees. And they are waterproof, although the contacts can get a bit green so spray some WD40 on them (on the bike cradle).

Only issue I've had with mine is that twice it has failed to start up - completely dead. And then for no apparent resaon it will start up again.

umm yup!
I noticed it while waiting to pay for a pair of pliers, I've been looking at sat nav for a while but coulden't really justify the cost for the milage I do.
I acutally had to ask if there was anything in the box at that price!

Has anyone got GPS on a naked bike? A bit worried about it falling off at speed with no wind protection

na im pretty sure it wouldnt fall off, it uses a U clamp on your handlebar and the actual unit clips on (and screws on if you want to screw it on) Well it does on the Garmin Zumo

Yep, another fan of the 550 here. It's soooo easy to use, I've yet to get lost using it....and that's coming from someone who used to get lost on the daily commute!

Whilst in France, mine found me all sorts of fantastic roads I'd never have found otherwise. Riding over the Pyrenees and through the roads of the French gorges, you get plenty of warning of hairpins.

And finding a list of hotels, in an unfamiliar town, after a long ride in the rain and being directed straight to it. What price can you put on that?

Sorry for dragging up an old topic, well it proved I searched first smile, I was wondering how everyone was getting on with their 550's? I am looking to get a system for my K7 GSX-R600 and have no idea which is better confused. The Zumo 550 or the TomTom rider. I am planning a few trips to Europe this year and would like the security of having something that will get me to the nearest petrol when being stupid.

I must admit I like the maps from the TomTom and the fact that the speed camera's are already loaded but the Zumo seems to have a better package in the trip menu functionality etc. Can you load cameras to the Zumo?

Can anyone who used these on a regular basis please tell me what they think. Any info much appreciated.

Cheers
Isaac.

I got both the tom tom 910 and Zumo 550. as a all rounder I would buy the 550 over the 910. I prefer the 910 map and layout but the zumo is just so flexible. great for car/bike and kit car as I use it

worth the cash and as yet not put me wrong
