Binnacle/instrument replacement

Basically, I've just got myself a 2001 Tuscan which has pretty much been laid up unused since new. As you would expect, it's in really good condition with ultra low mileage - but as it hasn't been used much, nothing really works properly

Anyway, one of the first issues that needs addressing is the fact that the LCD is shagged and the Speedo works when it feels like it. I can see from other threads that this is a fairly common problem, so I'm wondering whether I should consider adapting some kind of 'newer' binnacle arrangement from another model, ie: T350 or Sagaris to fit into the Tuscan.

Has anyone done anything similar, or is it just a question of better to strip down the existing unit, replace the LCD and live with the Speedo?

I should say that even when the Speedo does decide to work, it bounces around all over the place.

You have two Speedo’s on the Tuscan one analogue (around the outside of the LCD) and one digital, are they both playing up? If so sounds like you need to sort the speed sensor out.

Yes they both pretty much say the same speed. When the analogue one is sitting at 0, so is the digital one. So I suppose it could be a sensor fault?

What is the story behind your Tuscan? I have a 2000 one that is also ultra low mileage and sat in a workshop all its life!!

It was part of a private collection and I guess because the owner lives overseas and has so many cars, each one probably hardly gets used. The Tuscan did most of it's total mileage in the first year, and even that year the car did less mileage than what I have done in a week.

What's the story with yours?

Would suggest it's a faultly speedo sensor on the diff. If that fixes the digital read-out but not the needle, then it might need a fix done to the dash pod. A good dealer could arrange all that.

As it's an early car, check it had the front upright recall done(rust issues) again a good dealer would advise on that.

Photo's and more info on your car? Was it the one for sale in europe recently?

A small round sticker on the VIN plate in the boot will confirm if this has been done.

Yes, it was the one for sale in Monaco. The car has had one private collector from new and has done about 1,600 miles. Moonraker Black, Full Leather Biscuit Trim, A/C, 18" Spiders, 10 Disc CD system and full Red Rose factory options. Obviously, never had any paintwork or anything else for that matter.

Will get some pics up as soon as the weather clears up.

The car just has a few silly niggles really, such as the speedo/LCD thing already mentioned and there are a couple of bits of leather that have come un-stuck (probably from the heat), the electric mirrors don't work, the rear badge/button is really stiff and needs some serious effort to get the boot open, the heater doesn't blow hot air (probably because its never been used) and that's pretty much it really.

Engine and drive train are superb, brakes are ok, if not a little corroded on the discs (again, probably from lack of use).

I'm really chuffed with it though and will gradually get the bits listed attended to.

Are the speedo sensors easy to replace? Where can I get a replacement one from? and whereabouts on the car will I find it?
