Pops and Bangs

Not that I imagine its the best idea in the world, but as a relative newbie who'e mates have no interest in cars, how do you make it pop and bang for amusement and to upset the neighbours.

Something about throttling back at speed but can anyone give a more detailed explanation?

The popping and banging you hear is 'over run'...it's the excess fuel detonating in the hot manifold when you take your foot off the throttle at high(ish) revs.
You see race cars flame out going into corners (this is the extreme version)....It's a lovely noise and you know what they say..."Practice makes perfect"

The following help Sports exhaust and Optimax.

Squeeze the throttle in either second or third 3000-4000 revs ish and take your foot of the throttle. It should pop and bang on the overrun.

I also find that when costing down again, if you rest your foot on the Loud Pedal, just slightly, so its just depressed, Pops and Crackles are abound.

I am getting ALOT of pops bangs and crackles now tho, since the ACT Performance Manifolds

My Spitfire has a twin sports exhaust, which is virtually straight a through set up.

It pop's and crackles like a cerbera, probably even more so

Rumbling and Burbling is what you get after eating a curry,

Mine has loose baffles in the silencer so it pops and crackles on a trailing throttle (with or without and throttle pedal being applied). Must get it fixed sometime ... not.

Rumbles and burbles are what you get when you put the engine under load, just as nice but not the same thing as pops and crackles.

Definately pops and bangs! Best acheived with light loud pedal application when slowing down, especially after some vivid accelaration. A "trailing throttle" I think is the term.

Maximised by decatting and baffle removal, and ultimate expression is a backfire and huge flames.

well worth the money i reckon... take yesterday for instance, cruising along minding my own business, roof down, 6 or 7 teenagers start shouting and cheering at me, hands in the air, so i drop it down a gear, accelerate hard past them, then feather the throttle for the loudest, longest series of crackles and pops i could sustain. they looked gobsmacked

Was unsuccessful but will try again until I get it right, after all, its hardly a chore going out in the car. Next attempt taking place at 8 tonight on the A1.

Hmm. Was singularly unsuccessful at this in my completely unmodified Chim 400 last night. I will have to get to a meet somewhere and take lessons from one of you lot.

Mines an un-modified 4.0 too, it does work but I find the engine needs to be nice and warm first.

Try 2nd gear up to about 4-5000rpm then back off the throttle only just resting your foot on it (very gently)......use the force luke, use the force.
