Nikon Wait is Over - the D3
Discussion

Photographer and writer Rockwell Kenneth, an attendee at Nikon Corporation's D3 media event, was distressed to learn that all D3 lenses will only allow for manual focusing. "Getting rid of autofocus seems like a serious step backward. I can understand the less-is-more mentality, but this? Looks like I'm going to have to stock up on more D40s and 18-200 VRs. It's all you really need, anyway."

So Nikon announce a full frame camera despite previously claiming they would stick with the DX sensor. Talk about a stitch up! Surely all this does is make it even easier for people to switch to canon, when an "upgrade" renders half your lenses useless it's time to think about alternatives.
D3 and D300 previews are over here http://www.dpreview.com
No cleaning on the D3 but there is on the D300, plus a nice 3" screen with "live view".

Nikon never said they wouldn't do a full frame they just said they would do it when the time was right regarding cost, lens quality and sensor quality. I think it is safe to say that these new lenses were designed specifically to get the light onto the sensor without vignetting. I think this is a good thing, the D300 looks like a D2X with uprated focusing and WB settings :-)
I feel pretty certain that the D300 will produce as good a result as the D2X - for one third of it's price two years ago.
I guess If I did go the D3 route (I've had one on order for ever), I'd buy one FF lens, keep it on the D3 all the time, and use the DX lenses on the D2X.

Ok, so four or five iterations in to their Pro DSLR range they finally do full frame which canon have been doing for years (and frankly kicking Nikon's arse), because now the time is right?Seems to me they hung their hat on not needing full frame and this is a backpedal of epic proportions, any talk of improved sensors and glass being the reason behind this change is ludicrous - it's because they've been getting beaten up over noise for years.

I knew Nikon had announced a couple of new camera, but have only just had a look at them.
The D3 looks bloody impressive - ISO 25,600?!!! Shame they haven't posted an example: http://chsv.nikonimaging.com/global/products/digit...
Señor Get - I think full frame is a must for you sir

Matter of knowing where to look: http://review.fengniao.com/64/644918.htmlThose images are highly rumoured to be ones taken at launch by someone who sneaked of with a memory card. Certainly Exif data up to 6400 appears to be reported in these, after that it's not there ?
And see Scott Kelby's comments here
