Hullo...
Gave my CBR750 (Hurricane - an oldie!) to a mate and am now looking for a suitable bike, was wondering if you could give me some models to consider other than the BMW K1200rs. Need it for a trip down to Southern Italy and back... am 6ft plus 17 plus stone. Cheers for any suggestions...

I may be biased but for long-haul you'd struggle to better a Pan European.
ST1100s have hit 250,000 miles on original engines. Some 6-foot-plus riders say their legs clout the fairings, guess it depends on your build. Can be had from about £750 on; £2K gets you a nice one that will probably sell a year later with negligible depreciation.
ST1300s haven't got to bargain basement yet, you probably need £4K plus to get anything.

What is your budget? Do you want a full-on tourer?

What about FJR1300?

I went to Le Mans with a guy who had a Pan. He had one of those lids where you can raise the chin section up so your face is exposed? He was cruising at the ton merrily with his lid up, stereo on, heaters on full go (presumably!!!) without a care in the world.

Looked like a very capable machine to me, but not quite in the "spirit" of bike touring hehe it was almost TOO easy!
