I seem to be plagued with rotor problems at the moment. The car had done only 1000 miles since having a new rotor fitted. I had just driven from Queenstown to Timaru, a distance of 180 miles to take part in a British car rally. On the rally the car suddenly coughed and died. No spark! Low tension OK. A phone call to the local parts supplier determined that they had a new distributor cap, I thought that this would is all that would be needed as the rotor was so new. Playing safe, I bought new cap, rotor and leads. Fixed, or so I thought. On the way home, just a couple of minutes drive from a friend in Geraldine, it coughed and died again. We towed it back to the friends place, his father is a mechanic and he soon determined that the rotor had failed after a mere 30 miles.
Fortunately he had a couple of spare rotors and he threw in a new set of points. I was extremely fortunate to have broken down so close to assistance. An hour later I was crossing the mountain pass 50 miles from the nearest assistance and there is no cellphone coverage in that area.
So Bosch is not my favourite brand at the moment. An old Lucas rotor has already lasted longer than the previous new Bosch items.
