E39 523i AUTO noise??

help, help!

i have just bought my 1st ever BMW which i love, however it has, what i can only describle as a 'clunk' when i pull away (forwards and reverse), it does not happen everytime but 9 out of 10 or so, i have tried various ways of applying the throttle, i am new to the automatic business!

it is a 99 trip/auto, the thing is i still have a garage waranty (for what it is worth) ans was wondering if any experts had some ideas of what this could be or if there is anything i can do to eliminate areas,

if anyone can help with this and any other 5 series advice, tips, tricks i would be much obliged...

Could be a perished rubber cush drive on the propshaft.

Is the 'clunk' when you physically move the gear selector into D or R, or is it when you actually press the gas pedal to move away?

hi, it clunks as you apply the gas, and i'd say it 'feels' like it is from the rear, thing is it doesn't always do it, but as i have just bought the car i'm slightly paranoid.

the car has done 150K, are the auto boxes good for this millage?

if it comes from behind you its more likely to be diff or axle, and as likely to be bushes or 'movement', rather than a failing mechanical

difficult to say, without hearing it....
