Carrera 4S Cabrio

Roof chop for the very capable 4S

Porsche North America has announced the introduction of a Carrera 4S Cabriolet. The 4S - turbo bodied and 4WD - has found much favour amongst Porsche enthusiasts wanting sporting characteristics without stepping into Turbo territory.

The 2004 Carbio uses the normally aspirated 3.6 litre flat six which can take the car up to an eye watering 174mph. 62mph is reached in 5.3 seconds, a figure that belies the capabilities of this car.

Adding rigidity to the cabrio has cost in terms of weight though with the roofless version weighing in at an extra 70kilos required to reinstate the chassis strength required.

Four wheel drive remains along with the standard electronic "Porsche Stability Management" (PSM) system. Stopping power is provided by the brakes from the 996 Turbo - perforated and internally ventilated brake discs with a diameter of 13 inches. The wheel tyre combo is made up of eighteen inch light alloys with 225/40s on the front axle and 295/30s on the rear. This model, as well as the Turbo, can be fitted with Porsche's revolutionary ceramic brake system, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) if required.

North American prices will be $93,200 U.S. and $136,700 Canadian.

Another significant effort from Porsche on the way to ultimate ugliness.

Who wants a hairdresser's car to lap the Nürburgring anyway ?

Looking forward to seeing a Cayenne cabrio

The C4S was already much heavier than a C2, especially in lazy-boy tiptronic spec, that poseurs love so much. Adding another 70kg would bring that spec cabrio to 1595kg. Fat bastid! I reckon a boxter s is better value, better looking and faster. What next, cyenne cabrio? All-bar-one-tastic, mate.

I reckon it'll look good in black.

At least the body shape will differentiate it further from looking like a Boxster (as the current 996 Convertible does)

I quite like the idea of a Turbo Cab with the X50 upgrade... !

A turbo cab is totally different. That would make some kind of sense. At least it would do 'what it says on the tin'.

This tarts handbag is nonesense though. Why bother spending an extra 35k just to differentiate it from a boxter, with no real benefit. Some people have strange hang-up's over model hierachy.

This alledged "tarts handbag" will shortly take on the characteristics of rocking horse sh1te. Like the C4S was a bargain in comparison to the C4 I'm sure if the cabrio is priced likewise it will be a runaway success.

PS - Sat in a KN 3 weeks ago. At £45k I liked it. Didn't have a spare £45k though.
