Limit for Group C cars
Discussion
The orginal Idea there came about comparing the tuned and lightend tasmins against stock road car chimaeras, and the power/weight at the wheels was about the same at 160-180 per ton.
that then became standard v8's which isnt really much use to regulate things... I think if V8's stay in C they will have to be restricted back to the p/w of the original calculations :-)

i've got a list of the p/w figures from 2004 and the 11 tasmins went from 1082 to 1141 including driver, measured at the end of the race.
the then class A ( lowest power) class cars were coming out at about 130 bhp per ton and the class B cars 210-230 ( wheel figures)
class A is equivalent to class C now and class B to the bottom of current class B...
now those power figures are probably a bit low, but a jump to 200bhp/ton would seem to high imho..
The front running v6 car in class C is quoted at just over 200 at the flywheel, and a 2.8 is only good for 190 without spending huge amounts of cash...
Isnt a stock v8 disco listed as about 190 bhp...
maybe you could use a 3.5 v8 out of a stage 1 v8 109 landrover, complete with the speed restricting distributor

Well I'll wait till it's been agreed and then get a engine to suit.
There's a lot of scope for the RV8.
The stock SD1 vitesse or stock 3.5i was 190 BHP at the fly. I don't think the 4lr LR was much more. but had more room for tuning.
I think a 3.5 tuned will should have a better power band than a non tuned 4ltr at the same BHP. correct me if im wrong.

Even as a big SD1 fan, I'm a bit sceptical about the 190hp figure for the Vitesses. If the 155hp of the twin SU setup is to be believed, I cant see adding fuel injection giving 35hp, as far as I'm aware there was no difference between SD1 cams, however as I've never had a stock SD1 on the rollers I wouldn't know for sure.
If you're looking for 200hp, its easiest, cheapest and in the long run less stressful to get a 4l and de-tune it if needed as opposed to scream the balls of a 3.5l. however bear in mind the figures Andy as quoted above are at the wheels so you'll lose 15-20% in the transmission from your flywheel figure (or approx 40-50hp depending on which rolling road operator you speak to).
So say your car, for simplicities sake, weights 1000kg with you in it. For class C you need 200hp/1000kg at the wheels (assuming what has been stated becomes law) which is between 230hp and 240hp at the fly. A 3.5l motor is going to have to have a lot of money spent on it to reliably give 240hp, a 4l motor does that with comparative ease. Whichever way you go it sounds like we're going to have a play together next year

Well the TVR 350i had the standard vitesse engines drop in with no mods as far as I know, and I know they do get 190BHP at the fly, its about the only TVR that gives the figures the factory say it should have.
Well if I can have 200 at the wheels then I'll get a 4lr, but if it 200 at the fly then I'll use a 3.5
I would have thought a tuned 3.5 would be more responsive than a de-tuned 4ltr.
be fun to be involed anyway. I don't think I'll be able to afford to do a full season, but hope to do 4 or 5 races.
