Nurburgring 23 - 26th August

Hi all,

I'm travelling down to Cologne on Thursday then onto the "ring" on Sunday. I intend to get some video of the journey (going with a Ferrari F430, 360 Modena amonst others) which I hope to post up on my return.

Before I go, can anyone suggest what to take in the way of tools, etc. Obviously OIL is a key factor here and a few imperial spanners and allen keys, tyre repair, cable ties etc.

Have I missed anything?

Make a long list of all the things you could ever need, then order them by importance. Start from the top of the list and start packing........see how far you get before you run outta room !!

Good luck - take lots of film and batteries.

How about a scissor jack [only one that fits under my car] pllus a slat of wood to protect chassis, tyre press gauge and pump, gaffer tape or even better silage tape [it's like 4" wide insulating tape but stickier], PTFE tape, adjustable spanner, fuses, some nuts [M6/8/10], disposable gloves and a roll of paper towel, oil and petrol filler funnels, cable ties if not already mentioned, plastic steel or rapid araldite, 3/8" allen key for front clip pivot bolts, 3/8 spanner for exhaust manifold bolts, threadlock, copperslip, small bottle dot5 brake fluid, spare spark plug with correct gap + spanner/socket, small torch, phone charger!!![put in factory No 0441455631366] AA recovery, health insurance and track insurance. Then you can update me for next year when I go there as to what you forgot to put in!

I always carried a spare alternator/water pump belt in mine and the tools to fit it...

Great lists so far, would also add spare bulbs and some fuses, length of electrical wire and some pliers of differing styles. I also carry a small socket set and a spare wiper blade plus a water pump and alternator belt. I also carry a spare air con belt, however this is almost impossible to fit road side without lifting the car, the issue is access to the tensioning bolt. I would then not want to get under the car whilst on a sissor jack. I was kind of hoping that where ever I was I would find a friendly garage that would let me use the ramp to fit the belt.

Most importantly make sure you have European recovery. Can not stress that enough. If all else fails at least you can either get home or where you need to be to fix the car.

Don't forget some spare pants, if you are at all trying, you will need them for sure by all accounts

well it went ok, except for overheating issues in the city (Cologne) mind you it was 26 deg plus.

GTR handled like a dream, and got loads of attention. Hopefully once i learn how to download and edit off my DVD camera I can post some vid of the trip.

Only tool I needed was the allen key to remove the rocker cover to add some oil...

so all in all it went well, mate with the F430 was well peeved as we had an "unofficial" race from 60 mph and he couldnt get away. In fact I started to pass him until we ran out of road. The GTR really pulls hard from 100 I noticed. I expect its the torque which the Ferrari is sadly lacking.

NO...there is a breather "block" but it doesnt come off... tried unscrewing it and all sorts... the original builder told me that I had to unscrew the 4 allen screws in the centre and remove the rocker cover.

No, taken by one of the other lads on focusstoc.com. He posted a 'What the hell is this...?!' thread, and I pointed him to the Ultima section on PH telling him that it's likely a close-knit community as they're relatively rare.

2 minutes' investigation revealed you own a yellow GTR and there can't be TOO many of those around! The correlation with the F430 & 360 in the thread and the fact you were abroad recently confirmed the rest really!

Don't know if you'll need to register to see this, it's only really what I've told you above!

To be fair focusstoc is probably only really interesting to people who want or have one! Can't see it being too exciting if you're driving an Ultima although I'm sure a lot of the guys on there would be VERY interested in it.. You're welcome to pop your head in mate!

just dropped by and left a note. Bit of a Ford man myself, had an Escort Cosworth, 2 RS turbos etc... The focus I had was a TDCI so not really exciting. If Ford bring out a 4x4 turbo Focus then I would have one without a doubt. Better still it would be a Cosworth

There's rumour-aplenty of a new RS but nothing concrete yet. Issues with a suitable 4x4 drivetrain have been bandied around..

apparently the volvo AWD platform could be used.. The I5 engine is good for an easy 400 bhp. In the Volvo race series in the states we were getting 600bhp out of one.
