I was in our local co-op supermarket yesterday buying some jiffy bags to post something to my parents. The store has a P.O. inside so it was nice and easy to wander from the till over to the PO, drop the present in the envelope and send it on its way.

However, this got me thinking - it would be incredibly easy to just wander in, pick up a iffy bag and a CD/DVD, go to the PO and post it home to yourself. Thus bypassing ass the security tag bleeping barrier things at the exit.

Thinking about it I've seen this in another shop too, where the post office is in the store and DVD's etc. are actually in the cases on the shelves.

Do people shop lift in this manner? Or am I just a criminal in waiting?

Theres the small matter of making it obvious who they're being sent to, of course!

You send it to a neighbour who you know will be out and sign it as them.

You could try sending it to someone else as a test run first I suppose......

Thats the whole point - the postie's trolley goes out via another door.

Having said that its out of sight so could have alarmed barrier things.

Hmmm, our local Asda is the same, although the PO counters are on the "wrong" side of the checkouts... apparently... not that I've been in an Asda or anything <backtracks>

Are they where one you goes if Waitrose or the tailors are shut? But then isn't that what Ocado is for? Or the girl from that organic place down the lane?

I would imagine there are security cameras... and should you be spotted, you may be in a little bit of bother!

"I was testing, to see, if, um, the ASDA Value marker pen could write on the ASDA Value Envelope, whether the ASDA Value envelope was compatible with my existing range of postage stamps, and whether the sizings on the ASDA Value padded envelope were correct, so I could fit my DVD (ready to be purchased at a low price) in it. I was also testing if the packaged DVD would then fit in the postbox..."
