Have purchased a couple of MB Quart Component Speakers for front doors of a Chim
Only problem is they come with 2 huge cossover units
Where can I hide these units?

I've been told its not a good idea to put them in the doors cos their not waterproof & the doors get loads of water in....
Don't really want to put them in the boot because this would involve running cables from the doors to the boot somehow & then all the way back to the head unit (unless this is easily achieved?)
Only places I can think of is under the dash (Is there room?) or one behind each seat behind the storage flap thingys

Any ideas, anyone else had them installed?

Seem to remember there is some space under the dash. Took my dash of a while ago could not believe how neat the wiring was smile Make sure your addition is complimentary!

I would still try to mount them in the doors try putting them in freezer bags or pull them apart and use silicon sealer when you put them back together to try and make them as water proof as you can.smile

Errrr, not sure about putting them in plastic bags in the doors
I would imagine they get quite hot whilst in use, thats why they have cooling holes & I wouldnt have thought plastic bags & heat are a good combination...

Does anyone know how to run cables from the head unit area in the dash to the boot?
Is there a cable route which might be possible to follow, have checked TVR Bible but nothing in there really helps?

Had stuff on my Alarm done by Carl Baker, I agree, top bloke

Discussed him doing the speaker installation but couldnt afford for him to do it unfortunatly
So feel a too guilty to now phone him & ask for advice on doing the installation myself...
I do know he doesn't fit them in the doors on Chims though...

There is some room under the dash on the passenger side, but again because they generate heat I don't really want to put them close to the other electrical components under the dash

I'm sure Carl would understand, he's fully aware that people who own TVR's haven't got bottomless pockets. smile

You re probably right
Still would like to know if theres an accessible wiring route to the boot though, as in the future I would like to install a new head unit with a separate 40Gb hard drive in the boot....

They are cross overs not amps. I use speakers every day which use a lot more power than small car set up's never come across a cross over thats so hot you can't touch let alone melt somthing wink They might get warm but thats it.

Oh right!

Thanks for advice Dave, I thought they might get quite hot because they have loads of what appear to be cooling holes in the sides

I might rig them up & see how hot they get, just to be on the safe side....

Assuming I can put them in the doors, I will need to work out a way of fixing them, wods of silicon?
Hopefully I can get them through the existing speaker holes so I don't have to take the door trim off, heard this can be a bit awkward

You could always put them behind the head unit loads of room behind there. smile Don't really know how easy it would be to run some more cables to the doors.

Just took the old speakers out of my doors
Theres no way the crossovers are going to fit in my Chim doors
Dam & blast!

Think ive discovered a route back to the boot though.
lift centre consol where gearstick is(4 screws) & theres a wiring route under the air vents into the dash area
At the back of the consol you can see where the cables to the door locks go, just above the secret storage comartments.

Think I can follow this route, then into the side pocket where the passenger door solanoid is, then from there its easy to get into the boot.
Then all the way back again to the doors, or just back behind the head unit & connect onto the existing speaker wires to the doors.
Did that make sense, probably not?

Its going to be a bit of a pain..........

All done

Wired crossovers to boot, what a nightmare job, allow a whole day!

Now have 2 x door crossovers & 1 x crossover for rear Bass speakers all fitted in the boot

Mananged to get them all fitted behind the removable top panel above the petrol tank in the boot ,so their all nicely hidden (-:

Sounds awesome, highly recommended!
