My Gallardo got decatted and a Tubi exhaust today!
Discussion
Bought the Tubi and test pipes from Jonny5 a good few weeks back. Travelled from Birmingham to London to Verdi Ferrari to get it all fitted.
All I can say WOW. Why oh why do Lambo not make the car sound like this from stock? It is truely awesome! Anyone who still has a stock setup, get rid of it ASAP! If your undecided come out in mine!
Had the pipes, exhaust and Callisto's fitted now, can't really think of anything else, anyone done anything else to their G's?
Cheers!

Think you will find as cats removed you have no valid insurance that would make me decided. All I can say WOW. Why oh why do Lambo not make the car sound like this from stock? Why? Is it because an assumption of the policy is that the car is road legal?

As it is a mod you need to let insurance company know exactly what has been done who in turn will tell you you are not covered.
I have a motorbike with non standard exhaust and always mention it to insurance company but this year they have asked if it is ROAD LEGAL as if not they will not cover me.

That was one of my main criticisms with the car (dealer aside!). Would have been the thing I sorted out if I'd have kept it. Would have left the cat's in though to keep it 'legal'.
Next would have been the stereo, as the speakers are really naff.
Glad to see you're enjoying the car!
I agree totally about the stereo. Its next on the list as as you say, the speakers are terrible! Although saying that i can't hear anything now at all!! Next would have been the stereo, as the speakers are really naff.

Modified pretty much every car i have ever had (TVR, 355,550) but decatting = non road leal = no insurance = f*cked if you ahve an accident - and not just your car but if you have an accident then you can get sued for fortunes.... ie/ you injure someone you can end up paying for life ....no interest - noise i agree is spectacular but it aint worth being penniless for life - changing exhausts no problem - decatting makes it all different in legal terms....
Another reason to leave my G alone

Sports are exhausts are all good but if your gonna fit one then please understand the law.
The back box alone is fine aslong as you declare it to your insurance company as it is a modification.
A decat makes the car non-road legal as it would not pass an MOT test. Therefore in an accident you car would be deemed by the police and insurance company to be non-road legal and you'd be in serious XXXX.
The best option is to go for a sports exhaust and some sports cats. Declare the mod with your insurance but you still retain road legal status.

I've been an avid reader of this section of the forum for a while now, but I didn't think i would be able to contribute for a few years at least but here goes....
As far as I'm aware it's not a legal requirement to have CATs fitted to the car. It's only a requirement to have emmissions below a certain level but I should imagine you lucky lot will be pushing out quite high emmissions so the cats will be required to bring the levels down. But unless you go along to an MOT station and have it checked then who are you to know.
I say get rid of the CATs and make some noise!

Some insurance companies will cover you. My ferrari is decatted with a capristo, insurance company knows and they are fine with it.
Are you sure you are covered do you have that in writing? If not you may find if (hopefully not) you have a claim you are not insured I am pretty sure NO insurance company will cover you for road use with cats removed on a car manufactured to use a cat.Just a question...
If it's not-road legal to de-cat a car and will lead to insurance problems etc. then does the garage who does the work have any obligation to mention this?
Just imagine that you take a car in with bald tyres for a service and one of the baldies has a puncture. If you ask a reputable dealer to repair the puncture he'll say "No, it's not road legal" and refuse. So do people who have cars de-catted announce to the firm doing the work it's a race car and not for on road use, do they ignore the advice of the engineers doing the work or do the firms just not mention that de-catting will cause a whole load of trouble?

Taking the cat out of a car does not make it unroadworthy. There is nothing saying your car must be able to pass an MOT at any point in the year, it only states that it must have a valid MOT certificate if over a certain age. And also that certain parts of the car (eg, the tyres) are within limits.
However, you should inform your insurance company, as it is a modification.

Also, perhaps i should add that with older cars which usually need welding/engine work every year to get through an MOT, if you have an accident a few weeks before your mot, are the insurance company going to refuse to pay because your car would not pass an MOT in its current state, well.. of coarse not, because you have a valid MOT done the year before. Its the same thing with the Cats.
Of coarse, you can be fined if you fail a roadside emissions test.
Obviously if any faults contributed to the accident it would be a different story.
