Hi there,
I was recently caught speeding (grr) but have been offered to take part in a Speed Awareness Scheme Workshop as an alternative to the fixed penalty.

Now to my questions:
1. If I take part, will I still get 3 penalty points on my licence?

2. I've got an EU driving licence. How does the police "award" points to Non UK licence holders?

Many thanks in advance!

Don't know about EU licence, but if you do the Awareness Course and complete it, you dont get any points.

No.

If you do not have a UK licence, then any points you are awarded are applied to a DVLA 'ghost' licence. If you apply for a UK licence whilst any 'ghost' points remain valid, then these points would appear on it.

Likewise, if you amass 12 penalty points or more in any 3 year period, be they 'ghost' points or otherwise, you are liable to be banned for a period of 6 months.

What do they actually do at this "Speed Awareness Scheme Workshop"? I've got an image in my head of some old hag waving a finger and shouting "speed kills" and telling you to write that down a thousand times... tongue out
